The head of the British Defence Staff for West Africa, Air Commodore Paul Warwick was at the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday, 7 April 2021, to update the Ministry on the ongoing and projected support by the British Armed Forces to the Gambia Armed Forces, as relevant to the security sector reform.
During the meeting, Air Commodore Paul Warwick expressed the British Armed Forces’ commitment to accompanying the Gambian security establishment in the crucial stage of its transformation.
In his remarks, the Gambian minister of Defence, Sheikh Omar Faye, thanked the British Armed Forces for what he described as their consistent and unwavering support to The Gambia Armed Forces.
He equally expressed appreciation to the British Government for sponsoring the drafting of the first-ever Defence Policy for The Gambia. He gave update on the progress of the policy formulation, intimating that the first draft of the Policy will soon be shared with the relevant stakeholders for scrutiny.
In a similar engagement, Defence Minister Faye also received in audience Doctor Lassina Zerbo, the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear- Test Ban Treaty Organisation. His visit to The Gambia is in pursuant of joint consultations to encourage the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty, and probable technical services and support that could be provided to the country in the future.
