While praising the rapid infrastructural development underway in the country, the Director of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Mr Hassoum Ceesay suggested that better and unique name could have been identified for the under-constructed Bertil Harding Highway, which undergoing a drastic transformation ahead of the OIC summit in May this year. He made this assertion during an interview with the Gambia Daily at his office in Banjul.

Commenting on the ongoing infrastructural development, Mr Ceesay said he is not surprised by the rapid infrastructural development that has been happening in the past years in the country since the coming into office of the current government.

“The government has been voted with a strong mandate by Gambians and now it is the turn of the government to deliver some of the projects that Gambians were promised,” he stated.

He mentioned the inauguration of numerous projects such as the university project, roads, bridges, schools, hospital facilities, solar plant and electricity improvement projects.

Despite not having his desired name for the road, the NCAC Director described the road construction project from the Airport Junction through Bertil Harding Way to Stink Corner as great.

“The OIC road is very important but still, we can give a unique name for this road. The OIC road is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the history of this country,” he pointed out.

He went on to mention the construction of the biggest hospital in Farato and other parts of the country as indications of positive development for The Gambia.

He used the opportunity to call on Gambians to continue nurturing tolerance and peace.

“I want to take this moment to congratulate the President of the Republic His Excellency Adama Barrow and all Gambians, including our founding fathers, on Gambia’s 59th independence anniversary,” he stated.

Mr Ceesay finally called on the government to build a national theatre for the country.
