The Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters today, Monday May 30th launched the Gambia Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Map and Functional Web-Based System, through the Climate Smart Rural WASH Development Project (CSRWASHDEP).
In a media advisory, the Fisheries and Water Resources ministry said the government had received the grant from the African Development Bank and that implementation has started in 144 project intervention sites throughout the country.
The goal of the project is to improve and contribute to the socio-economic and environmental conditions of the rural and peri-urban population through improved access to sustainable WASH infrastructure and services in The Gambia.
The objectives are of the WASH Map and functional Web-Based System: to develop digital water point and sanitation map for The Gambia. The digital map should provide information on coverage and access in the rural and urban areas; to establish a baseline of the available WASH facilities in The Gambia; to consolidate the information obtained from all stakeholders and shared in a freely accessible database; to develop and establish a functional (web-based) M&E system accessible to different stakeholders and with varying levels of access; to enhance the ability of the Project Coordinating Unit and Regional motivators/ department of waters resources and relevant stakeholders to update the database periodically.
“Through the CSRWASHDEP under the Ministry, a consultancy firm “Hydro Nova and Water Charity The Gambia” were subsequently hired to execute the assignment. The duo has successfully completed the assignment and next stage is to present the draft report and map to the wider relevant stakeholders in the Water and Sanitation sector with the view to validating the documents,” the media advisory stated.
