The management of the national telecom company Gamtel/ Gamcel recently handed over a cheque for D300,000 to the Ministry of Health, as part of their contribution towards the fight against COVID-19 in the country.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony held at the Ministry’s complex in Banjul, Madikay Njie, Public Relations Officer of GAMTEL affirmed that the donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and specifically for the fight against COVID -19.
He noted that the viral disease is causing serious havoc to the global economy; Gambia not an exception.
Njie opined that while government is making efforts to contain COVID-19, its efforts need to be complemented at all levels.
Lamin Tunkara, Deputy Managing Director Gamtel attested that the telecom giant has over the years been supporting the Ministry of Health in different areas.
While thanking them for the good work they are doing, he urged the Ministry to utilise the money wisely.
Momodou Lamin Jaiteh, Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Health, described the contribution of Gamtel/Gamcel as a good gesture, while recognizing them as regular supporters of the health sector. PS Jaiteh strongly assured them that the money will be put into good use.
