Gambia to Commemorate Road Traffic Victims Day

By Lamin Njie

It was on the 26th October 2005, that the United Nations passed and adopted a resolution to mark the 3rd Sunday in November each year as World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims.

The day provides an opportunity to remind government, civil society, private sector, development partners and road users of their responsibilities to make  roads safer.

The main objective of the commemoration is to raise more public awareness on road safety issues and provide a platform for victims of road traffic accidents to share their ordeals with fellow road users.

The Gambia will commemorate the day on Sunday, 19th November 2023 at the Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure premises.

According to officials of the Ministry the slogan for this year’s event is ‘Remember those who died; support those who survived and act for justice’, and the theme is ‘Justice for victims’.
