Banjul, 27th February 2025: The Turkish Government recently donated equipment to The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services and The Gambia Police Force.
Authorities believe that the move demonstrates the strength of Th Gambia Government’s international collaboration, and commitment to improving the lives of Gambians and residents of The Gambia, as well as exemplifies the highest ideals of patronage and compassion on the part of the Turkish government.
Gracing the presentation and hand-over ceremony at Bakau Fire Service Station, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Mr. Abdoulie Sanyang extended his heartfelt gratitude to the government and people of Turkiye, as well as the Turkish Embassy in The Gambia which, he said, has always been supporting the armed and security services of The Gambia.
“This is not the first time the Turkish Government has assisted The Gambian security forces. In the past, the Turkish Government supported The Gambia Police Force with riot gears, arms and ammunition and a host of other security items to ensure the Gambian community is safer. We appreciate your support and partnership,” he stated.
Minister Sanyang underscored the importance of these donated vehicles in enhancing the operational efficiency of the Fire and Rescue Service. He added that the donations will equally enable the Fire and Rescue Services to better respond to emergencies, particularly in densely populated urban areas.
“With these vehicles, our personnel will have greater mobility, ensuring faster response time during emergencies, thus serving as a renewal of hope, reinforcement of community confidence, and a step forward towards ensuring that every Gambian and non-Gambian feels secure and supported.
“This generous donation from the Government of Turkiye aligns perfectly with our mandate and the broader goals of the Government of The Gambia. It reinforces our mission to build a responsive emergency infrastructure and promote inclusive safety for all,” he highlighted.
In his conclusion, Hon. Sanyang reaffirmed that the Ministry of Interior remains steadfast in its commitment to improving the security and safety of our citizens and residents.
The Ambassador of Turkiye to The Gambia, Turker OBA, reassured his commitment to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries and reaffirmed his continual support to strengthening the Gambia’s security sector.
