Basadie Jabbie, a Gambian businessman based in the People’s Republic of China, in partnership with TAM WAI, through Dr Tong Yunkai of Hong Kong Confucian Academy, donated 2000 Rapid Test Kits to the Ministry of Health.
During the presentation ceremony held at the Central Medical Stores in Kotu, Modou Njai, Director of Health Promotion and Education Directorate, indicated that the test kits are very important for laboratory screening. The donated items he noted will help the National Public Health Laboratory Services in their work, especially during this time of COVID- 19. He assured the donors that the items will be judiciously used.
Njai then appealed to the village heads to strengthen their surveillance over people trying to enter the country during this COVID-19 lock-down period. Modou Lamin Jarjue, a representative of the Director of the National Public Health Laboratory Services, described the donation as timely. “The good thing about the Rapid Test Kits is that it can be use in the remote areas,” he added.
Musa Saine, Logistics officer of the National Pharmaceutical Services also thanked the donors for their support, affirming that the items donated are very valuable to the Ministry.
For his part, Basadie Jabbie, pointed out that the donation is in response to COVID-19 and in particular the call made by the President of the Republic for people to support the government’s efforts against COVID- 19.
