Banjul, 24th February 2025: The Calvary United Community Church marked its 23rd anniversary, drawing worshippers and guests from across the world, including a delegation from the United States. The celebration is a testament to the church’s enduring mission and deep-rooted connections.
Among the honoured guests were Keith and Margie Nix, long-time friends and supporters of the church, who described their journey to The Gambia as a homecoming.
“The church’s longstanding relationship with The Gambia traces back nearly 30 years, fostered through a friendship between Nix and Pastor Bidwell Mendy, the church’s founding leader. Jesus makes us brothers and sisters regardless of our ethnicity or cultural upbringing. We consider it coming home to family,” Nix shared.
The anniversary celebrations will be marked by worship, fellowship, and a reaffirmation of the church’s commitment to spreading the gospel, which is the central message in Christianity reflecting the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus.
He added that Jesus is a figure respected among Christians and Muslims, known for his remarkable works, humility and kindness towards those in need. “In Christian theology, Jesus’ life is seen as a significant fulfilment of prophecies in the Old Testament of the Bible. Meanwhile, in Muslim theology, he is seen as a great prophet who cared for his people”.
Nixes emphasised the role of Calvary United Community Church as a representation of Christ’s mission on earth. He pointed out that the church is the hands and feet of Jesus. Reflecting on their involvement, Margie Nix, who visited The Gambia for the second time, expressed her admiration for the country and its people.
As part of their visit, the Nixes and their team will be engaged in various church activities and explore ongoing projects within Calvary United Community Church. They expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of the church’s leadership and congregation, emphasising the importance of integrity and shared vision in their partnership with Pastor Bidwell Mendy.
