His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Thursday, 30 January 2020 gathered his cabinet members at the State House to discuss the recent anti-government violent protest.
A group of protesters were out in the streets on Sunday, January 26th 2020 demanding the President honours the 2016 coalition agreement of a 3-year mandate. The protesters clashed with the police, who accused them of violating the terms of the conditions of the permit.
Briefing the press after the meeting, Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure said they have taken note of a number of issues and that they are calling on the Gambian people to remain calm as “the situation is under complete control”.
He assured the international community of Gambia government’s sacred duty and commitment to the democratic principles. “The Gambia government will continue to be engaged in those sacred principles”, he stressed.
The minister therefore took the opportunity to call on the public to support the government to ensure that the peace in the country is sustained.
