Last Friday, a cruise ship called Azamara Quest arrived in The Gambia with over 600 tourists on board for a short holiday visit to the Smiling Coast of Africa.
Officials of The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard), and stakeholders in the tourism industry were at the Gambia Ports Authority to welcome the tourists to The Gambia.
Azamara, from Miami, Florida, USA, is renowned for its global cruise offerings, intimate experience, never crowded, yet equipped with everything modern travelers seek on board.
Ebrima AK Sanyang, Senior Officer for Research and Development at GTBoard underscored the importance of the arrival of the cruise ship to The Gambia’s tourism sector and its economic benefits.
He further stated that similar ventures in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, led a promotional mission to Miami, Florida, to position Gambia as a top cruise destination.
“Promotional efforts were also carried out in Senegal and these initiatives have led to a steady rise in the number of visitors arriving in The Gambia by cruise ship,” he said.
