Andan Daan Covid-19, a philanthropic organisation, in collaboration with the office of the National Assembly Member for Lower Saloum, has tasked itself to feed 500 families in the district.

Andan Daan COVID-19 has been proactive in the fight against the deadly novel corona virus (COVID-19) since the government declared a 45-day partial shutdown amidst a state of public emergency. The group’s taskforce, under the leadership of Hon. Sainey Jawara, National Assembly member for Lower Saloum, has been embarking on sensitization activities on preventive measures against the virus, as well as providing hygiene and sanitary materials.

There are so many porous borders in Lower Saloum and people from Senegal do enter Kaur and its surroundings via these unofficial entries. For that, the team were so concerned and went as far as those border villages; namely Simbara Ngorr and Jimbala to sensitise them and encouraged them to be vigilant of entrants from Senegal so as to avoid the spread of the virus.

The chairman of the committee said they also deemed it necessary, in this containment stage, to mobilise resources to procure foodstuff and supplement the efforts of the government in the fight against the virus. “Surveys were conducted and it was meant to fetch those vulnerable families among the 64 villages in Lower Saloum,” he asserted.

Lower Saloum is a district where her people predominantly depends on farming. Some depend on weekly markets, called ‘lumos’ for their income and others rely on petty retail business. And all these avenues of getting income are now limited or even stopped for the meantime. For this reason, many families are now in need of help.

The mobilisation of resources is still ongoing with the committee Anda Daan COVID19 and distribution would soon be executed.
