2 Armed Forces Officers Decorated, New Council Sworn in

His Excellency Adama  Barrow,  President of the Republic of The Gambia and Commander-in-Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces on Thursday 20th March presided over the decoration of two senior officers of The Gambia Armed Forces, who were promoted to the ranks  of Commodore and Brigadier General; as well as the swearing in of newly reconstituted Armed Forces Council . The two promoted officers are:  Yaya Drammeh -  to Brigadier General and  Commander of the Republican National Guard (RNG); and  Sambu Barrow,  promoted  to Commodore and  Commander of Gambia Navy.
The members of the council are:  Mohammed BS Jallow, Vice President, as the Chairman; Major General Ousman Gomez, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff; Brigadier General Sait Njie, Commander of Gambia National Armed Forces; Brigadier General Yaya Drammeh, Commander of Republican National Guard; Commodore Sambu Barrow, Commander, The Gambia Navy; Professor Cherno Omar Barry, civilian member; and Sarjo Fofana, retired admiral. 
 The Armed Forces Council was set up in 2022.
The Vice President and chairman of the council, stated that security of the country depends on the professionalism of the forces, and assured the President that they will do everything possible to deliver to expectations.
Honourable Serign Modou Njie, Minister of Defence also expressed appreciation to the President for his commitment to strengthening and supporting the armed forces.
He assured that the Armed Forces remains loyal and committed to the President and the country.
Lieutenant General Mamat Cham, Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces, highlighted the progress of the armed forces reforms under President Barrow. 
He pointed out that promotion is earned through hard work, commitment, dedication and discipline. 
The swearing in ceremony was attended by ministers, senior army officers, senior government officials and family members of sworn-in personnel.
