Special Committee on National Back-Up Connectivity Inaugurated

In a bold step towards strengthening our nation’s digital resilience, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Hon. Lamin Jabbi., on Wednesday, 7th May 2025, officially inaugurated a Special Committee on National Back-Up Connectivity at the Ministry

This strategic move, the Ministry says, underscores its commitment to tackling the ongoing broadband and ICT infrastructure challenges, especially the vulnerabilities posed by the country’s current single point of international connectivity through the ACE Submarine Cable.

“The goal is clear - To ensure uninterrupted, secure, and reliable internet connectivity for all.

The newly formed Special Committee brings together policymakers and licensed Telecom/ICT operators in a spirit of national collaboration. Its mandate includes but not limited to: review and assess the current connectivity landscape, advise on establishing robust international back-up solutions, and recommend cost-effective strategies for a

shared and efficient national backbone network, the Ministry stated in its media report on its social media page.

It went on: “We believe that digital transformation requires

collective action.

That is why this Committee is inclusive, cross-sectoral, and fully representative of all key stakeholders in the Telecom and ICT ecosystem”.

The authorities believe this will pave the way for a more connected and resilient digital future for The Gambia.
