South Carolina State University Donates Drone to Enhance Agricultural Research

The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI)   recently received a donation of a drone from South Carolina State University, USA at a presentation held at NaRI’s conference room in Brikama,

This support was part of the   MoU, aimed at strengthening both parties to ensure each other performance to effective service delivery. The donation also aimed at enhancing agricultural research and addressing food insecurity across the West African nations.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony Director General NARI Dr. Demba Jallow hailed the donor, South Carolina   University for this magnificent gesture gear towards enhance data collection and service delivery for NARI.

We must acknowledge and appreciate this support which is first of its kind for NARI  to acquire such a latest technology Dr. Jallow went on to explained how the journey started which is through a phone called conversation with the coordinator Dr. Lamin E. Drammeh Gambian based in USA.

He also stated that this drone will have a positive impact to ease and reduce cost -effective for the work of NARI  in the field specially when it comes to data collection.

Dr. Jallow seized the opportunity to thanked his senior management for their commitment and dedication in the execution of their duties. He also praised the NARI Board under the leadership of Dr. Ernest Obi for the ushering many initiatives for NARI.

This is step in the right directionfor NARI to have setting drone, which is a big achievement

Also Speaking the NARI Board Chairman Dr. Ernest Obi, described this ceremony as very essential for the fact today, we are introducing a relevant technology to the work of NARI. Dr. Obi said as the world is moving digitally, Gambia is no exception. He went on to embraced the introduction of drone which is wisely use. Today if NARI has adopted the usage of drone, it is a welcome development and major break for not only for NARI but the Gambia for the fact that this drone will provide, accurate, timely and reliable data.  He spoke on extensively the lack of data in the West Africa States has hinder so many developments, but with such a drone for NARI, we real appreciate this kind of gesture as this is step in the right direction. Dr. Obi also stated that this drone will help NARI to generate data in a lot of parameter which is a welcome moved.

 Dr. Obi further expressed total appreciation with the level of the partnership between NARI and South Caralina State University USA.  He said this partnership was agreed and approved by the NARI Board under his leadership. Today this partnership has alleviated the work of NARI to another level.

He therefore on behalf of NARI board and Management he thanked Dr. Lamin E. Drammeh Vice President of the Association on Public Services and Agriculture for ensuring that Gambia benefit from this drone. He described Dr. Drammeh as a patriotic Gambian who have not only the Gambia at heart but the West African states.

He added that Dr. Drammeh have been very much instrumental to ensure during his tenure as Vice President of their Association NARI get this drone to ease their work in the collection of data.

Dr. Obi, further commented Dr. Drammeh the coordinator of this gesture for his efforts and commitment towards the welfare of NARI. we have no doubt that this drone will yield impact on the work of NARI.

 Dr. Obi also assured NARI to redouble their efforts as more technology and support will be coming soon.
