Sierra Leone High Commissioner Seeks Closer Banjul- Freetown Tourism & Cultural Ties

The High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to The Gambia, Ms. Martha Consilla Kanagbo, has called for closer collaboration and cooperation in the tourism sector between The Gambia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and the Ministry of Tourism of Sierra Leone.

The High Commissioner made these remarks during a courtesy call on Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, in Banjul.

“When it comes to tourism, The Gambia is ahead of us. We want to learn from you. Your beaches are well cleaned and well maintained.  This is what we want back in Sierra Leone, as well,” she said.

According to her, The Gambia and Sierra Leone have a lot in common; especially about culture and traditions. This she noted could be further strengthened to enhance sustainable and resilient tourism.

High Commissioner Kanagbo used the opportunity to call on Sierra Leonean nationals in The Gambia to be always law-abiding.

She acknowledged that The Gambia and Sierra Leone have a long-standing relationship needs to be cherished and protected.

On his part, Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, thanked the High Commissioner and her team for visiting his office despite her busy schedule.

The Minister reassured her of his Ministry’s collaboration, especially in the areas of tourism, arts, and culture, between the two countries for generations to come.

He further informed the High Commissioner of the rich and diverse cultural heritage and historical sites that The Gambia has, which could be of interest to Sierra Leone in terms of tourism promotion. 

“Sierra Leone has been a good friend of The Gambia for a very long time. A lot of Gambians went to Fourah Bay College for studies in Sierra Leone, and today, they are serving The Gambia in different sectors of the country,” he said.
