The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has announced the appointment of Mr. Salifu Touray as the Chef de Mission (CDM) for the country’s delegation to the 2025 African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola. The continental event, organized under the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), will run from December 10th to 20th.

According to the GNOC, participation in the ANOCA Youth Games forms part of its strategic roadmap towards the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The Games will serve not only as a preparatory ground but also as a key qualification platform for Gambian athletes.

Team Gambia is set to feature in multiple disciplines, with a total of 26 athletes carrying the national flag. Athletics will dominate the contingent with 10 representatives—five boys and five girls—while other disciplines include swimming (1 male), badminton (1 male), judo (2 athletes), boxing (1 male), wrestling (1 male), and taekwondo (2 athletes)

In team sports, The Gambia will compete in beach volleyball with both male and female teams, alongside a male 3x3 basketball squad.

With the appointment of Salifu Touray as CDM and a diverse team of young athletes, The Gambia is aiming to make a strong impression at the Games in Luanda, as momentum builds toward the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics.
