H.E. President Adama Barrow on Wednesday, June 11th, received the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Ojukwu as Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
H.E. Ambassador Ojukwu delivered an invitation to the President to attend the forthcoming West Africa Economic Summit in Abuja, scheduled from 20th to 21st June 2025.
President Barrow conveyed his gratitude to President Tinubu for sending a Special Envoy and commended Nigeria’s leadership in the sub-region, and the initiative to host the first West Africa Economic Summit. He emphasised the need for the region and Africa at large to prioritise intra-regional trade.
State Minister Ojukwu explained that during the summit, leaders will discuss issues extensively related to trade, and investment, in a bid to harness the potential of the youth and demographic dividend across the various countries of the region.
She said the meeting will also find ways and means of guaranteeing peace and stability across the region, with various initiatives that are already in place.
The maiden West Africa Economic Summit is expected to foster dialogue among African leaders and enable them to discuss issues related to harnessing intra-regional trade and investment, policies around regional integration, peace and security, and tackling challenges such as poverty and unemployment across the West African region.
The Nigerian was accompanied to the State House by the Nigerian Ambassador to The Gambia, and Mr. Lang Yarbo, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad.
