The North Bank Region Red Cross Branch has recently concluded a 10-day summer camp in Njaba Kunda, bringing together volunteers from across the region for intensive training, skills development and hands-on community service.
The camp was designed to strengthen the capacity of Red Cross volunteers in key humanitarian and development areas. Over the 10 days, participants took part in structured training sessions covering Basic First Aid, First Aid at Work, Dissemination, Mental Health Awareness, Migration Support, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, Gender Sensitivity and Massage Therapy.
The training combined expert instruction with group discussions and practical activities, equipping volunteers with knowledge and skills they can apply in their communities. Beyond the classroom, the camp emphasised service, solidarity and community engagement.
Volunteers participated in several activities, including tree planting to promote environmental protection, blood donation drives to support local health services, and a friendly football match between the volunteers and a team from the Njaba Kunda community.
The football match provided an opportunity for volunteers and community members to interact in a friendly atmosphere while strengthening relations between the Red Cross and residents. At the closing ceremony, organisers expressed appreciation to all volunteers, veteran members and facilitators from within and outside the region for their commitment, hard work and expertise throughout the programme.
Special recognition was also given to stakeholders in Njaba Kunda, including the school administration, the Alkalo, the Chief, community residents and the youth group, for their warm hospitality, generous support and cooperation during the camp. The 10-day programme not only equipped volunteers with valuable knowledge, practical skills and greater confidence, but also reinforced the Red Cross mission of service, compassion and solidarity across the North Bank Region.
