His Excellency, President Adama Barrow on Wednesday, 14th May, received National Women Councilors at State House in Banjul.
He promised to support the lady councilors and advised them to unite.
Honourable Fatou Kinteh, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, informed the councilors that the government is trying to revise the Women’s Act 2012. “The women are ready to support and work for the development of the country,” she acknowledged, while urging the women to continue the good work that they are doing and support the President to carry his development agenda forward.
Mrs. Ramata Gigo, Chairperson of the National Women’s Council, thanked the President for inaugurating the National Women’s Council in 2024.
She informed that they had conducted two days’ training for all lady councilors from across the country about their role and responsibility.
She appealed to the President to create and allocate an allowance for the lady councilors.
Jack Ceesay, Vice Chairperson of the National Women’s Council, thanked the President for supporting the women of the country through the National Women’s Enterprise Fund, in their small businesses and improve their lives.
