In its quest to show commitment to national sports development, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has disbursed over D15 million to key federations and athletes as part of its continued support for international preparations and competitions.
The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) received D10 million to cover costs associated with the Scorpions’ training camp in Morocco, ahead of crucial international fixtures.
Meanwhile, D1.8 million was allocated as direct cash support to The Gambia’s top five athletes based in Paris, assisting with training fees and upkeep as they intensify preparations for upcoming global events.
In another development, the Gambia Volleyball Federation received D800,000 to support the country’s participation in the African Nations U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, also scheduled for Morocco.
Additionally, five hundred thousand Dalasis (D500,000) was provided to the United Front to support the organisation of the sixth edition of their Internal Marathon.
The Tijan Jaiteh Foundation was also granted D2.3 million to cover airfare for The Gambia’s U-16 team to participate in the Norway Cup, where they aim to defend their U-15 trophy.
This timely financial support highlights MoYS’s unwavering dedication to nurturing Gambian talent and ensuring national teams and athletes remain competitive on both continental and global stages.
