The Office of National Security (ONS) recently held a two-day retreat from 7 to 8 August 2026 at Halahin, Kartong, bringing together senior management and staff to review key documents aimed at strengthening the operationalisation of strategic, operational and tactical structures within the national security framework.
Moderated by the Acting Director of Policy and Planning, Awa Jobe, the retreat provided a platform for participants to review 15 key documents, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Terms of Reference (ToRs).
The documents are intended to support the effective functioning of the Security Information Operations Centre (SIOC) and the Crisis Management Centre, as well as facilitate the establishment and operationalisation of committees under the National Security Council, as provided for under the NSC Act 2025.
In his opening remarks, Deputy National Security Adviser (DNSA) Ousman Jallow commended participants for their commitment and willingness to engage in the review process.
He emphasised the importance of teamwork, mutual respect, constructive feedback and effective time management in ensuring a productive and successful retreat.
Over the two-day session, participants reviewed a range of SOPs, ToRs and reporting templates covering areas including crisis management, integrated reporting, SIOC operations, intelligence and strategic committees, joint operational coordination, and regional intelligence and security coordination.
ONS Leadership Commends Staff
At the close of the retreat, Chief of Staff Ambassador Landing Kinteh praised the initiative, describing it as a significant and historic moment for the ONS.
He expressed appreciation to the National Security Adviser (NSA) and his Deputy for their support in making the retreat possible, as well as for the guidance, assistance and resources provided throughout the process.
Ambassador Kinteh also commended the Directors and the wider ONS team for their dedication and efforts in ensuring the successful completion of the retreat.
The retreat is expected to contribute to the strengthening of the ONS’s institutional frameworks and enhance coordination, information management and operational preparedness across the national security architecture.
