Lands Ministry Intensifies Reforms to Strengthen Land Administration

By Majula Samura

The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs has intensified efforts to address challenges affecting land administration across the country through a series of strategic interventions aimed at promoting order, transparency and efficiency in the management of land resources.

As part of these efforts, the Ministry convened a high-level meeting on Friday, 14 August 2026, in Fajara, bringing together technical officers and administrative heads to conduct a comprehensive review of key issues affecting land administration, including land disputes and other related concerns.

The meeting sought to identify practical solutions and determine the most effective course of action to ensure that longstanding challenges are addressed in a timely and coordinated manner. Discussions highlighted the need to move beyond identifying problems to implementing concrete solutions, with participants agreeing on clear timelines for execution.

The Ministry has also continued engaging its line institutions, including local government authorities and surveyors, to strengthen coordination and improve land governance across the country.

According to the Ministry, these engagements are intended to promote a more collaborative approach that upholds fairness and transparency at every stage of the land administration process, while ensuring that stakeholder input continues to shape policies that are inclusive and responsive to the needs of citizens.

To give effect to these deliberations, the Ministry has already begun putting in place robust strategies aimed at mitigating the most pressing concerns, with special attention being given to matters that demand urgent attention. The Ministry is working to update these processes to ensure that allocations are conducted in a manner that is open, accountable, and merit-based.

These strategic reforms are expected to bring improvements in operational efficiency and to enhance inter-departmental coordination within the Ministry’s broader land administration framework.

The Ministry has acknowledged complaints from members of the public relating to land disputes, and irregularities in documentation, which are being documented for review and regulatory compliance. This approach will inform broader policy adjustments in the interest of national development and social stability.

Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening transparency in land resource management and enhancing the effective monitoring and evaluation of land administration.
