Gov’t Procures Medical Supplies, Equipment Worth US$2M

The Gambia government through the Ministry of Health on Monday received a consignment of medical equipment and supplies from Turkey.

The minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh and other important senior government dignitaries including the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Dr Momodou Tangara; Finance and Economic Affairs, Mambury Njie; and Information and Communication Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah were at the airport to receive the equipment when the cargo plane arrived.

A total of one hundred million Dalasi (approximately) US$2million of the Government Local Fund (GLF) along with financing from the World Bank was used to procure the 10 ambulances and a large quantity of high-quality medical equipment and supplies. They include 60 ICU beds, 600.000 surgical mask, 1.2 million gloves, 5000 oxygen masks, 4 ultra sound machines, 20.000 face shields, 25,000 personal protective equipment (coverall), 30,000 respirators (N95), 205 oxygen flowmeter, 3 digital 4D color ultra sound machines, 4 ulra sound scanner and 100 non -touch thermometers.

Dr Samateh described the arrival of the medical supplies as a big boost to the country’s fight against Covid -19, especially at this critical time when the cases of covid-19 are increasing.

He thanked the Government of the Gambia for funding the procurement of these essential supplies and equipment and the World Bank for facilitating the procurement.
