In a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at fostering stronger bilateral relations, His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, last week held high-level talks with His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting, which took place at the State House in Dushanbe, focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries, with particular emphasis on trade, capacity building, and multilateral diplomacy.
Vice President Jallow conveyed warm greetings from Gambian President Adama Barrow and expressed deep appreciation for the hospitality extended to the Gambian delegation by the Tajik government.
Addressing the media after the meeting, VP Jallow highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration between smaller nations, particularly within global platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations General Assembly.
“As small nations in a divided world, we must continue to support each other,” VP Jallow said. “We have proposed strengthening our relationship through trade, capacity-building initiatives, and the establishment of a joint commission,” he added.
The discussions also included exchanges on major global issues, including ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Palestine, and other regions, reflecting the shared concerns of both nations about international peace and stability.
The meeting is seen as a milestone in Gambia-Tajikistan relations, with both sides expressing optimism for deeper cooperation in the near future.
The Gambian Vice President was in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe for the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held from 29th to 31st May 2025.
