Gambia conducts 195 tests for COVID-19 – Health ministry

Dr Mustapha Bittaye, acting director of Health Services of the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, April 8th, reported that Gambia has so far had a total of 195 tests out of which 189 were negative, 4 positive and 1 inconclusive. He added that a total of 39 people are currently on quarantine.

Dr Bittaye intimated the public through the ministry’s routine press briefing, held at the Ministry of Health in Banjul.

Further with the update, he affirmed that The Gambia has recorded no new laboratory confirmed COVID -19 case; that 22 laboratory test results were received from MRCG, 20 of which turned negative. “The two remaining results were those of the active case and the probable case. While the active case remains positive, the probable case still came out inconclusive”.

He reminded that the number of confirmed cases remained 4, out of which 2 recovered, 1 passed away, 1 undergoing treatment and 1 probable case. He added that all four confirmed cases were imported.

The Director seized the opportunity to urge the public to follow government’s guidelines on the preventive measures against COVID -19; need to stay at home and to protect themselves and loved ones.

He also advised people to remain vigilant and call the toll free line 1025 for assistance.
