Essau United Football Club has secured promotion to the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Men’s Second Division League after defeating Jam City FC 2–1 in the promotion play-off final at Basori.
The hard-fought victory marks a historic milestone for both the club and football in the North Bank Region, with Essau United becoming the second consecutive team from the North Bank Regional Football Association (NBRFA) to earn promotion to the country’s second-tier league.
Congratulating the newly promoted side, the NBRFA Executive Committee described the achievement as another landmark moment in the region’s football development, noting that Essau United’s success follows North Star AFC’s historic promotion last season, highlighting the steady rise of North Bank football on the national stage. According to the NBRFA, the back-to-back promotions reflect the vision, investment and collective efforts of clubs, coaches, players, administrators, supporters and partners who continue to strengthen football across the region.
The Association also commended the players, coaching staff, executive members, supporters and the entire Essau community for their resilience, discipline and determination throughout the campaign, describing the achievement as an inspiration to aspiring young footballers across the North Bank Region.
The Executive Committee, led by President H.E. Ebrima Ceesay, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the continued growth and development of football in the region and wished Essau United every success as the club prepares for life in the GFF Men’s Second Division League.
