Banjul, 19th February 2025: The Director General of the National Centre for Arts and Culture said the national organising committee of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations has put arts and culture as a top priority in this year’s celebrations.
Mr Hassoum Ceesay was speaking to Gambia Daily about NCAC’s level of preparation for the 60th Independence Day celebration, in the area of arts and culture.
NCAC is mobilising creative and performing artists to partake in the artistic and cultural component of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on 18th February 2025.
Mr. Ceesay explained that this is in line with the government’s commitment to promote arts and culture in the country.
He revealed that six top Gambian artists have been prepared for the musical jamboree on Independence Day at the memorial Arch grounds in Banjul to be supported by a live band, technicians and stage managers.
“All dignitaries coming for the event will be given a befitting Gambian cultural welcoming as the NCAC has adequately mobilised different cultural groups for the event both at the airport and Coco Ocean Hotel,” he said.
The NCAC boss also mentioned a state banquet and some interesting cultural displays as the main highlights at McCarthy Square, aimed to showcase The Gambia’s rich and unique culture.
He revealed that the government has replaced the old elevator and refurbished the ARCH 22 to give Banjul a new look for the Diamond Jubilee.
Mr. Ceesay finally thanked the Government of The Gambia for the support towards this year’s celebrations, and for prioitising the preservation of the country’s rich cultural heritage.
