The 2025 CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup, set for September 2–7 at Kasumai Beach in Banjul, is expected to be a landmark event for African youth sport.
The tournament, a collaboration between the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), and Olympic Solidarity, will bring together top U18 teams from across the continent. It is designed not only as a competition, but as a platform to showcase young talent, promote Olympic values, and strengthen Africa’s preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
Platform for Talent
The Banjul event offers a stage for emerging African athletes to display their skills, build confidence, and gain valuable experience in high-level international competition. Officials believe it will uncover a new generation of volleyball stars and instill a winning mentality among youth athletes.
Development and Growth
Aligned with CAVB’s strategic vision, the tournament plays a vital role in developing youth volleyball in Africa. By exposing players to international standards, it aims to elevate the level of the sport and ensure strong African representation in upcoming global competitions, particularly the Dakar 2026 YOG.
Pathway to the Olympics
Beyond immediate competition, the Youth Development Cup serves as a crucial stepping stone to the FIVB U18 World Championship and ultimately the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. With support from Olympic Solidarity, the initiative underscores CAVB’s commitment to youth development, sport excellence, and the growth of beach volleyball across the continent.
Leadership Support
Reacting to the development, CAVB President Bouchra Hajij expressed delight over The Gambia’s hosting of the tournament, reaffirming her commitment to the growth of youth volleyball in Africa.
> “This is expected to be one of the most important beach volleyball events in our 2025 calendar, and we are putting all efforts together with the Gambia Volleyball Federation to make it a success,” Hajij said.
As Africa gears up for Dakar 2026, the Banjul tournament promises to be a turning point, shaping future champions and strengthening the continent’s Olympic ambitions.
